While the positive screen for PKU was frightening for me, I was relieved there was a program to quickly identify Joe’s condition and get us on the right track. By the time he was just a few days old, we were prepared for the challenge in front of us. Twelve years later, I see him getting bigger, stronger, and smarter every day. I have newborn screening to thank for Joe’s success, and I am grateful. My days of winning one-on-one basketball are numbered!
