The 11th year of the Rare Artist Contest is now open for submission and has some exciting new updates for the rare disease community.
The Rare Artist Contest aims to celebrate the talents of the rare disease community and spread awareness with each piece and the artists behind them. Anyone who is connected to rare is encouraged to enter.
This year’s contest participation aims to focus on the EveryLife mission of empowering the rare disease community to advocate for impactful, science driven legislation and policy that advances the equitable development of and access to lifesaving diagnoses, treatments and cures.
New Contest Platform!
The 2021 Rare Artist contest will showcase a new contest platform. It will no longer be accepting contest submissions through Facebook or email. This new platform will allow each contestant to create and edit their entries up until the deadline on July 16th, 2021.
New Categories, Prizes and Contest Structure!
A new young adult age category was added to the Rare Artist Contest making a total of four age groups for each. All awardees will receive the same cash prize of $500. After the judges narrow contest participants down to 20 finalists, the community will make the final decision on the top 10 Rare Artists for 2021.
20 Finalists
Finalists will be hand-picked by The Rare Artist judges and notified by August 18th, 2021. Finalists’ artwork and artist profile will be announced publicly and able to vote on October 1st. The public will have until October 29th to decide on the top 10 artists.
10 Awardees
Awardees will receive a cash prize and an opportunity to come to Washington, DC to display their artwork at the Rare Artist Reception during Rare Disease Week on Capitol Hill 2022.
2 children (ages 4-11) – $500 each
2 teens (ages 12-19) – $500 each
3 young adults (ages 20-30) – $500 each
3 adults (ages 31+) – $500 each
New Advocacy Coaching!
In the spirit of Advocacy, the EveryLife Foundation will be offering individualized coaching for the twenty Rare Artist finalists. Before sharing finalist profiles to the public, the EveryLife staff will work with artists on their advocacy goals, create an artist’s profile and provide training on how to share your artwork with the community for the public vote. The goal is to empower artists in sharing their advocacy story and provide them with the proper tools to turn them into advocates.
The submission deadline is July 16th, 2021 @ 5pm ET.
