Established in memory of Paula Kovarick Segalman, this scholarship supports students whose education has been financially impacted by ALS.
Eligibility
Open to U.S. residents who have experienced financial hardship due to ALS affecting themselves or an immediate family member (living or deceased). Applicants must enroll full-time in an accredited two-year, four-year, or vocational program in the upcoming academic year.

Award
One new $5,000 scholarship is awarded annually.
The award is renewable for up to three additional years, or until a degree or certificate is earned, whichever comes first. Renewal requires a minimum 2.5 GPA and enrollment in at least six credits.
Application Timeline
The application is expected to open in spring 2027.
Selection Process
Scholarship America administers the application and selection process independently. Finalists are reviewed by the Segalman family.
Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, leadership, work experience, financial need, and written responses about goals and the financial impact of ALS.
Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

About Paula Kovarick Segalman
Paula Kovarick Segalman was a nurse, athlete, traveler, and lifelong believer in the power of education. After being diagnosed with ALS in 2008, she faced the disease with strength and resilience until her passing in 2015.
In her honor, the Segalman family established this scholarship in 2016 to support students whose lives have been affected by ALS and to continue Paula’s legacy of compassion, perseverance, and commitment to education.
