We want to ensure that the young adult rare disease community’s voice is heard in local, state and federal elections around the country. RARE Young Adults has compiled resources to assist advocates in ensuring you are prepared to vote and know your rights.

Voting Resources
- US Vote Foundation: The US Vote Foundation is a one-stop resource for all your voting needs! You can check your registration, register to vote, request an absentee ballot, and more! They also have resources for Americans living abroad, disabled voters, and restoring your voting rights.
- Vote.org: Vote.org allows you to check your registration, register to vote, request an absentee ballot, sign up for election reminders, and get more information about what’s on your ballot.
- Vote411: Vote 411 can help you register to vote and learn more about voter requirements in your state, such as ID requirements and early voting options, as well as opportunities to serve as a poll worker.
- Voter ID Laws: The National Conference of State Legislatures has information about Voter ID laws in each state, including the type of ID required, exemptions to the ID requirements, and what voters can do if they don’t have the required ID on Election Day.
Resources for Disabled Voters
- Plain Language Definitions: The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) has created a list of common election terms with easy-to-understand definitions.
- ADA.gov: Learn more about how the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) protects the rights of disabled voters. You can learn more about solutions for common access barriers at the polls, accommodations to make voting more accessible, and other laws that protect your rights at the polls.
- Voting with a Disability: Vote.gov has resources for disabled voters. You can learn more about your options for registering to vote, accommodations while voting in person, accommodations for voting by mail or absentee, and resources available to help disabled voters.
- Voting Rights of People Subject to Guardianship: The National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) held a webinar offering tools to help protect the voting rights of disabled people subject to guardianship or conservatorship.
- Voting Accommodations for People with Mental Disabilities: NDRN has created a guide to voting access, accommodations and resources for people with mental disabilities.
- ASAN: The Autistic Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) has created a voting toolkit, including plain language and easy read guides to voting and state election laws.
- U.S Election Assistance Commission: This commission was created to assist states in improving voting systems and voter access for all Americans. The resource linked here gives you additional information on the commission and other laws impacting the voting rights of disabled people.
Research Your Ballot
- Research!America: This website is full of resources that advocates can use to reach out and educate candidates about the importance of investing in medical, public health, and broader scientific policies to build a strong future for our nation.
- RARE Advocates Congressional Scorecards: These scorecards list the actions your Members of Congress have taken on federal legislation impacting the rare disease community with a grade for each Member.
- NORD State Report Cards: The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) has created this guide with state-by-state insight on issues of importance for the rare community including medical food coverage, newborn screening, and Medicaid eligibility.
- Ballot Measures: The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) has a ballot measures database where you can find a neutral analysis of both state and local ballot initiatives, many of which could affect the rare disease community.
