Maynard Friesz is the Vice President for Policy & Advocacy for Cure SMA, a national organization representing and advocating for individuals with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), a rare neuromuscular disease. In this role, Maynard oversees the policy team and leads Cure SMA’s advocacy agenda on issues including healthcare access, caregiving, accessible transportation, financial security, employment, and SMA research.
Prior to joining Cure SMA in 2019, Maynard spent 10 years as Assistant Vice President for Government Relations at Easterseals, a national disability rights organization. Before that, he worked for 12 years in the United States Senate, serving as a Legislative Assistant for Appropriations and Director of Special Projects.
Born and raised in North Dakota, Maynard graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead. He resides in Arlington, Virginia with his wife and son.
