Mary Michael Kelley, MPA, MEd, is Vice President of Patient Community Engagement. Her interest in health advocacy grew during her decade at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama when, after a lengthy diagnostic odyssey, it was discovered that severe complications in two of her pregnancies were due to a rare hereditary disorder. During her tenure as ED of the food bank, she led the establishment of the Mothers’ Milk Bank of Alabama (MMBAL), which serves the region’s sickest preterm infants through donor human milk. Mary Michael has also worked for the Human Milk Banking Association of North America; Epilepsy Foundation of Alabama; UAB School of Medicine; and, most recently, as Senior Director of Patient Engagement for the Arthritis Foundation. Mary Michael holds a bachelor’s degree in communications, a master’s in education, and a master’s in public administration. She is based in Birmingham, Alabama.
