This week, the proposed budget, HB 110, passed the Ohio House of Representatives with important newborn screening language. The budget language will streamline the process for state review and adoption of conditions listed on the federal Recommended Uniform Screening Panel (RUSP). It implements a timeline for when the new screenings must begin, and will eliminate any unnecessary delay in screening for diseases, ensuring the Ohio babies born with debilitating and life-threatening diseases are diagnosed and treated at the earliest age possible and without devastating delays.
