The EveryLife Foundation, along with 81 rare disease patient advocacy organizations sent a letter to President Biden commending the appointment of Dr. Janet Woodcock as Acting Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Woodcock joined the FDA in 1986 and most recently served as Director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) at the FDA, stepping away in May to assist Operation Warp Speed and the federal government’s efforts to rapidly develop vaccines against the novel coronavirus.
The letter expressed the organizations’ belief that “Dr. Woodcock leads with clarity and vigor, and a value for diverse stakeholder perspectives. She is very practical, pragmatic, and patient centered.”
President Biden has not yet selected a nominee to serve in the role permanently, however we look forward to continuing to work with Dr. Woodcock in her role as Acting Commissioner as we collectively seek to speed the development of safe and effective therapies for the millions of rare disease patients without approved treatments.
